We may just be ending October, but it’s already beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere we go, and it’s got us thinking about throwing an outdoor Christmas party! We know what you’re thinking: is it really possible to have a winter party outside? With the cold, wet and dark weather of winter, surely not! However, have you ever thought about getting a gazebo for your outdoor winter party? An outdoor gazebo that’s decorated perfectly is great for taking your winter party outside. Below, we’ve come up with our top tips for decorating your outdoor canopy to make sure you throw the best outdoor Christmas party.
An outdoor gazebo is great for shielding you from the wind or wet weather, however, they’re not always the warmest, especially when using one in the height of winter. There’s lots of ways you can add some warmth to your garden gazebo. Fire pits or chimineas can give a really festive atmosphere to your outdoor winter party; they’re excellent for keeping you warm and you can also use them to roast chestnuts or toast marshmallows to really add to the Christmas theme. Investing in outdoor heaters could also be great for adding some warmth to your garden gazebo. If you’re just looking for a quick fix of warmth, put out lots of blankets for everyone to wrap up in if they start to get chilly. Roasting chestnuts whilst being cosy in a blanket, could there be anything better?
Light the Night
Nothing says Christmas quite like lots of lights! Line the inside of your outdoor canopy with fairy lights and add some lights to the trees outside, too. If you’re having a dinner party, add some lighting to the table. One of our favourite table decorations are clear vases or jars filled with fairy lights. Candles are another one of our favourite decor ideas, especially at Christmas; decorate the table with tea lights in pretty jars. If you’re planning on using space in the garden as well as your outdoor gazebo, get some garden lighting. You could also add fairy lights to the trees and bushes in the garden.
Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
Can you really say you’re throwing an outdoor Christmas party if you don’t have a Christmas tree for decoration? Decorate a Christmas tree for the corner of your garden gazebo; it’ll look great for decoration, it adds some more light to your party and can also be used as an area for taking photos! If a Christmas tree isn’t going to work in your outdoor gazebo, decorate the trees outside. You could also add a garland to run along the middle of your dinner table and decorate it with lights and bows. Many places also now sell mini Christmas trees which are fantastic for decoration on your table.
The Perfect Table for a Winter Party Outside
If you’re hosting a dinner party for your outdoor winter party, you need to focus on the perfect decorations for your dinner table. As mentioned above, candles and a garland are great ways to decorate the table. A centerpiece is also always a good start for table decor; a big vase of flowers is a great centerpiece and, to make sure you keep the Christmas theme, use red and white flowers and add a bit of holly and ivy. You could also use Christmas themed napkins and crockery on the table. If there’s one thing you don’t want to forget, it’s crackers; what’s a festive dinner table without a Christmas cracker? Once you’ve perfected the table, don’t neglect the chairs. Decorate the chairs to match the table with bows or a garland.
Dreaming of a White Outdoor Christmas Party
Everyone dreams of a white Christmas, but we can’t always rely on the weather to give us one. Bring a white Christmas to your outdoor winter party by decorating your garden gazebo in all white. Get some fake snow to decorate the floor and some of the table. If you’re having a Christmas tree in your outdoor canopy, add some fake snow to that, too. Also, use all white decorations such as a white tablecloth, napkins and crockery. If you want to really keep the theme of a white Christmas, invite your guests to wear white.
DIY Christmas Decorations
DIY decor is perfect for those on a budget and there’s so many decoration ideas out there that you can make without breaking the bank. Lots of nature is used for Christmas decorations, which makes it really easy to find decorations that you could get for free. If you’re close to the countryside, it’s a great place to find bits of nature that you can spruce up for decorations ready for your outdoor Christmas party. Find some pinecones and decorate them with a bit of gold or silver spray paint or glitter; these would be great to add to your table centerpiece. If you’re lucky, you may also be able to find a bit of holly and ivy to decorate with. For the white Christmas theme, you could make decorations from paper.
Add Some Scent to Your Garden Gazebo
We’re always surrounded by the best scents at Christmas time! To make your outdoor winter party feel extra festive, add some of the scents of Christmas to your outdoor canopy. Scented candles are an easy way to add scent and there’s plenty of options to choose from. Decorating your table with cinnamon sticks is another great way to add a little bit of festive scent to your party. In addition to this, get some festive potpourri for the table; it looks pretty and will make the outdoor gazebo smell wonderful!
